RE REPORT - Paul Morrison

The SCCA continues to be the premier amateur racing organization in the U.S. and this is because of all the members.  There is always the 20/80 principle, where 20% of the members do 80% of the work.  This is not unusual but I would like to see more members active in the club.  We all joined for a reason, and maybe that is lost in history, but I think that an increase in membership participation would help us all receive more enjoyment.  If anyone wants to become more involved, please let know what you are interested in and I will work with you to make your experience more satisfying.

The SCCA National Convention was a great learning experience for me this year.  I know some will say I am a slow learner, but after attending three conventions, I can say that there has been more and better information at each and every year.

A closed door Regional Executive and Board of Directors meeting to establish a better connections between these two groups.

The annual meeting of the club - mainly a business meeting for a review of financials.

The Board of Directors Town Hall meeting where there is always a spirited exchange of ideas.

The Insurance meeting where Pete Lyons tries to keep us up to date on this important part of the club.

Grassroots motorsports growth panel where ideas were shared with AMA and NHRA representative.

The Regional Executive Academy where I tried to learn how to do my job better.

Tech training session for OBD II diagnostics.

SCCA University LS104 - The Art of Talk - on how to communicate better.

Safety Symposium on driver restraint including helmet, seat belts, seat and HANS devices.

Safety Symposium on vehicle construction, mainly concerning welding of cages and construction of rear race cars.

I hope that more of our members can experience the convention in the future.  The next three years it is in San Antonio, TX..

The March membership will be our Awards Meeting and I hope to see many of you there.  Don't forget that the race season is about to start with our drivers school.  It is a great place to lean and not just for the drivers.

Contingencies Flowing In for 2006 SCCA Club Racing Season

TOPEKA, Kan. (Feb. 9, 2006) – Showing their continued commitment to the SCCA Club Racing program and its participants, many major manufacturers and suppliers have unveiled their support plans for 2006, including more than $1 million in potential payouts through SCCA-administered programs alone.
“Contingency programs annually provide a great deal of support for our competitors and we are grateful for the active involvement manufacturers and suppliers display each season,” SCCA Director of Club Racing Terry Ozment said. “We must thank each and every one of our partners who support SCCA Club Racing competition and enhance our high-quality program with high-quality contingency programs.”

Kumho tops the list of potential payouts among SCCA-administered programs with more than $480,000 earmarked for American Sedan, Touring 1, Touring 2, Showroom Stock B and Showroom Stock C drivers who finish on the podium at SCCA Club Racing National events. In addition, Kumho has also set a smaller regional program in place.

Ready to give nearly $300,000 in payouts in 2006, General Motors Performance Division tops the list of manufacturer programs with $292,750 in potential prize-winnings going to participating competitors in the T1, T2, T3, SSB and SSC classes.

Following close behind, Dodge ($235,800) is also ready to make a healthy contribution to SCCA Club Racers in the T1, T2 and SSC classes.  Subaru has also crested the six-figure plateau, as the manufacturer will potentially pay out up to $101,800 in T2 and T3 through its national program.

After expanding its program during the off-season, Summit Racing Equipment’s national program will include the E Production, Grand Touring 1, American Sedan, T1, T2, SSB and SSC classes and could dole out up to $113,750.

Toyo Tires, a mainstay in SCCA competition for years, is back on board again in 2006, allowing its program participants in Spec Miata the chance to compete for $85,000 in total payouts.

Hoosier, Goodyear, Hankook, Mazda, Toyota and Nissan are all on board with SCCA Club Racing as well, as all will offer basic programs for the 2006 season.

Earnings for each of the 2006 SCCA Club Racing contingency programs must be properly claimed via fax or postal mail. Minutes of the February 2006 Membership Meeting

The February meeting of SCCA-MVR was called to order by RE Paul Morrison at 8:00. The minutes were approved by a unanimous vote as printed in the January TRACK. The only item under OLD Business was regarding any additional information for the Apprenticeship, which had not been received. Bill Pintaric gave the Treasurer’s report from Sandi Kryder via FL email. New Business was a thorough report by RE Paul Morrison on his trip to the National Convention.

Synopsis of sessions attended: {any errors are solely the fault of the secretary} discussion on the future of SCCA , how to better serve the membership (consumers will stop paying for a service that no longer meets its needs) RE information – get back to the basics

Closed door meeting with REs and the Board of Directors - some mistrust of what the Board does regarding policies and funds; lawsuit; runoffs – only 24 / 26 classes, some discussion as to format Insurance

Board of Directors Town Meeting - SCCA (+ $ 165000); PRO  (- $ 135000); Board is concerned about worker base (NASA has more user friendly rules and therefore easier to get more people involved)

Breakfast with Herb Fischel (GM racing representative from 60’s and 70’s) - SCCA needs more technical people; manufacturers need to become more involved (Mustang / Camero)

Grassroots Motorsports Panel - National Hot Rod Assoc. (200000 members, due to ‘social’ nature / entry fees); American Motorcycle Assoc.; Sports Car Club of America

Tech Session - onboard diagnostics; driver restraint  – can be costly, but debilitating injury vastly more  costly; vehicle construction

Lincoln Electric – welding discussion

New President – Jim Jullow (formerly with Chrysler )

Saturday Evening with Bobby Rahal  – very complementary to SCCA, enjoys his SCCA cars more than NASCAR

Sunday morning tour of Heartland Park – completely new 12” continuous lay track which has elevation changes like MidOhio (not as quick); 150’ by 100’ tech building; new restrooms; new timing and scoring buildings

Additional items discussed at the meeting included the lack of Regional coverage in SportsCar.

The Awares Banquet to be held Tuesday 7th of March at 7:00. Bill Kasmer asked for nominations from the members regarding the year’s awards.

NeDiv will be 10-12 March. A motion made by Bill Kasmer, seconded by Carl Holbrook to pay for any member’s registration fee to attend the meeting and include expenses for RE Paul Morrison was approved.

Lake Erie Communications will be meeting on 25 March.

It was suggested a MVR representative attend since we require their assistance. Meeting adjourned at 9:12 on a motion by Greg Alley, numerous seconds.

The 2006 Awards Dinner honoring the 2005 Awards recipients will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2006.  This is our regular membership meeting night, however, we will the meeting will be very brief.

MVR Driver School

Bill Kasmer will be our Chief Instructor.   Entry forms will be mailed out mid-March.  They will be on the MVR website and the Kryderacing website.

I am begging all of you now - please come out and work.
You do not need a license to work only an SCCA membership.  If you know of someone who might be interested in getting involved with SCCA, we have Temporary Memberships available for $15.00.  We always need help in Tech, T&S, Pit & Grid, Sound, Registration and on F&C.  The school is a great time to
learn a new specialty.

MVR provides lunches both Saturday & Sunday and dinner on Saturday.

ANNUAL VEHICLE TECH & DRIVER'S PHYSICAL

Once again Fred Baker Porsche & Audi Dealership, 19400 Rockside Rd in Bedford OH 44146 will be hosting the Neohio Annual Vehicle Tech & Driver's Physical Day on Sunday, March 19th.  The Neohio Tech staff will be available from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Dr. Michael Saddleton will be performing the physicals from 12:00pm until 4:00pm.  No appointment necessary.  A $50.00 donation is requested to help cover the cost of the "Mobile Medical Unit's used.  Any additional proceeds will be donated to the Nelson Ledges Road Course for improvements.

The Formula One seasons opens on March 12 at Bahrain.
